How do I know I'm Ready to Hire a Virtual Assistant?

You're a busy business owner. You have many things on your to-do list and many goals you want to reach. You may be feeling overwhelmed with so many things to accomplish and not enough hours in the day. Or you may wish you had more time to work on the things that make you profit and not just maintaining the behind the scenes daily grind. You have thought about hiring an assistant before but are hesitant because you are not sure if you are ready.

Here are 5 questions to ask yourself to help you determine if you're ready to hire help.

1. Have I already determined what specific things I need help with?

The tasks or projects you need help with should be things you can easily explain to someone and that once you let go of them they will free you up to spend time on other things that generate profit.

2. Will the expense provide a return on my investment?

You need to figure out first of all what you can budget towards hiring help. And then determine how you can increase your revenue through the help you've hired. For example, if hiring the virtual assistant will gift you with time that you can spend instead on things that bring in profit, then the expense is warranted. Also, if the work the virtual assistant does brings in more business, then the return on investment will make it worth it.

3. What kind of Virtual Assistant do I want to hire?

Are you looking to work with a big company that has various assistants, even if you get a different one assigned every time you need work done? Or are you more comfortable working with the same individual every single time? You will need to determine if the work you are delegating can be handled by someone that lives overseas or if you will need a Virtual Assistant that is based in your same country or even time zone to handle your tasks. All of this should be considered before you start your search for the right virtual assistant for you. You want to find someone that you are comfortable with and that will be a good fit.

4. Am I ready to let go?

I know how difficult it can be to hand over a part of your business. I am, after all, a business owner myself and hire my own help. So I can relate. Yet, if you want to help relieve some of the stress, free up your time and grow, you're gonna have to let it go at some point. If you're going to hire an assistant to delegate tasks and then hover over them and not let them flourish in their roles, you'll never grow much. And it's important to be realistic and know that you can't possibly do everything yourself.

5. What's stopping me?

If you have already figured out what you want to delegate, have calculated that the expense is justified because you'll have a good return on your investment, have already decided what kind of virtual assistant you would like to find and are ready to let go, then ask yourself, what's stopping you? There may be nothing now standing in the way of you delegating to grow your business. Remember, most virtual assistants will tailor a package to your specific needs.
